Memories of Sheila

I was priviliged to help care for Sheila during her last year at home. I worked for Home Instead and saw her twice a week. I always looked forward to these visits. Mr. Swenson would share stories about his work in radio and his writing. Sheila would talk about her days of acting and dancing and as a memory exercise we would look at her photos or pictures of her family and she would talk about them. Once we even rescued a cat trapped in the barn. Although Sheila prized her days of dancing and acting, what really came through was her love of family and her pride in them. She would speak about each of her sons and their accomplishments with pride and when she spoke of her grandchildren a special light would come into her eyes. As memories faded what remained was the love and the caring. In the thirty years I have worked as a CNA and caregiver I have taken care of many people. There are some who stand out in my memory and a few whom I will always remember as being very special. Sheila is one of those. I am so thankful to have known her and sat with her many times by the pond on your farm on Alewive Rd. You will all be in my prayers.  Barbara Lachance
