Obituary for Robert "Bob" Paine

W. Robert Paine, 95, of Kennebunkport, died after a brief illness at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough Tuesday, July 9, 2019.

Robert or “Bob” was born August 26,1923 in Saratoga Springs, NY, the son of Edwin M. and Ethel M. Paine. He was predeceased by four brothers; Richard, Miles and Edwin, who each served in the Navy during WWII from 1941-1946 and Webster who served in the Korean War in 1952-54. They followed their father’s example who served in the Navy from 1914-18 during WWI. Bob was also predeceased by his wife Anita, mother of his two daughters.

Bob received his BA from the NY Phoenix School of Design. As Art Director and TV-R Broadcast Producer he began his career at Ted Bates & Co. advancing to Vice-President at Geyer-Oswald, Inc., and President of Paine-Zdniak Associates, Inc.

Bob married his second wife Evelyn in Hopkinton, NH. Together they owned The Classic Villager Dress Shop and The Village School of Art. Their love of the Maine Coast brought them to Kennebunkport in 1981 where they opened and own The W. Robert Paine Art Gallery. Bob followed his passion becoming a prolific fine artist of original paintings and prints hanging all over the world including the George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush Libraries and Walker’s Point. He was one of the original founders of the Kennebunkport Artists Guild.

Bob is survived by his wife of 44 years Evelyn L. Paine, sister Shirley Fitzgerald, daughters Debra Obadia and Jacqui Paine, step-daughter Pamela Aslinger, step-son Greg Allen; grandchildren Jesse and Jenny Obadia, Jason and Chad Kunzler, Grayson and Oakley Allen; great grandchildren Julien Dunkle, Cora and Kaya Kunzler; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours are being held on Monday, July 22, 2019 from 4-6pm at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk.
