Obituary for Catherine C. "Cathy" Haley (Noon)

We mourn the death and celebrate the life of Catherine (Noon) Haley. It was in West Roxbury, Massachusetts where her older sister, Mary Ellen (Cobb) and twin, Claire (Gibbs) rode the trolley cars, strolled through Arnold Arboretum and enjoyed walking over to Haveys’ Beach. Their parents, Henry Noon and Ellen (Folan) relocated the family to Norwood, Massachusetts while the kids were in elementary school. Cathy was a middle school graduate of St. Catherine’s and a secondary school graduate of Norwood High School. Cathy’s dream was to pursue a career as a Spanish translator for the United Nations. She started down that path at Emmanuel College, starting a three-generation legacy.

Her path took a turn when she met her life mate, Richard W. Haley. They married in 1955, initially making roots in Norwood, then in Westwood, Massachusetts for 40 years. After retirement, they relocated to Kennebunk, Maine and have been an active part of the community for nearly 20 years.

Cathy’s extraordinary talents shined in the ordinary. She raised six children, Barbara Wefers, Richard Haley, Judi Lull, Chris Haley, Katie Helwig and Patty Ames. She was a cook, cleaner, decorator, driver, homework tutor, home repairer, sports enthusiast, business professional, trivia master, sharp dresser, and avid bridge player. Her talents and work ethic shine through her children and grandchildren: Jenna Mann, Anthony Haley, Haley Lull, Jason Wefers, Stephanie Haley, David Lull, Lauren Wefers, Allie Haley, Alex Helwig, Richard Helwig, Sarah Haley, Caroline Ames, Sally Ames and the late RJ Sutherland.

Visitors may pay their respects at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, ME on Thursday, May 30 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be at St. Martha’s Church, 30 Portland Road, Kennebunk, Maine on Friday, May 31 beginning at 11 a.m. There will be no gathering at the funeral home prior to the church service.

In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to one of Cathy’s two favorite charities: St. Jude’s Children Hospital or The Jimmy Fund.
