Obituary for Daniel J. Goodson

Sanford, Maine

Daniel J. Goodson, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, on May 11th, 2019.

He was born January 2nd, 1960 to Alton and Marguerite Goodson, in Saco Maine. Daniel graduated from Kennebunk High School with honors in 1978, while in high school, Dan worked for the family business, Goodson’s Getty on Main Street in Kennebunk and continued to enjoy his time there after high school. Dan then went onto work for Maine Firewood Supply doing what he loved to do which was cutting firewood and plowing snow. Dan later went on to get his activities assistance certification where he then worked for a short time at the Kennebunk Nursing Center.

Dan became disabled and decided to volunteer. He did many hours in the local food pantry, helping with the Kennebunk Secret Santa program, and enjoyed volunteering for the local nursing homes. He had a passion for making a difference in anyone’s life. Dan also made many coffee runs for his wife and co-workers at the nursing home. He didn’t mind getting a list and going to the local coffee shop.

Dan has a love for animals, especially dogs. Dan loved his dogs tremendously, Shannon, Cocoa, Brady, Skittles, and Lily and the list could go on. Dan enjoyed raising animals with his kids as well, from chickens to cows and goats, etc..

Dan’s hobbies include a very LARGE collection of Legos and matchboxes. He would sit for hours and put the sets together to display them for some time, take them apart, and put them in separate bags for later.

Dan’s love of life was spending time with his wife, family, and grandchildren. He enjoyed Nascar, watching Dr. Pol many hours of the day, and going to the local track to watch his son-in-law race. He also loved showing his grandkids his support for their passion of all the sports they all loved to play.

Dan is survived by his wife, Cindy; daughter, Jessica and her husband, Alan Tardiff, their daughter Riley; son Joshua and his wife Kari and their three children, Carter, Sophie, and Scarlett; and his youngest son, Daniel, and his wife Mariah and their two boys, Kaden and Kamden. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ann Hall and her daughter, Heather Hall Devoe, grandson, Chase; sister-in-law, Sharon Lapierre and her husband, Don; and his foster brother, Ken Cormier.

He was predeceased by his parents, Alton Goodson in August 2007 and Marguerite Goodson in November 1991.

The family of Daniel would like to thank Dr. Merrill Farrand for all the 35 years or so that he treated Dan. Words cannot explain what he has done for him. “Thank you Dr. Farrand.” The family also wishes to thank Ann Don and Sharon and anyone else that transported Dan to chemo or the man Dr. visits and tests

Dan was lucky enough to have a private nurse. Words cannot thank her enough for always being there, checking on him, and hooking him up to feedings, or just lending a listening ear. Thank you, Alana Wilkins for all you did for him.

Also, thank you so much Northern Lights Home Care.
