Obituary for Eleanor H. Grames (Hale)

Eleanor Hale Grames, 96 years young, a resident of Kennebunk, formerly of Sanford and Kezar Falls, ME, died peacefully late Saturday evening, February 23, 2019 at the Kennebunk Center of Health and Rehabilitation.

Eleanor was born in April 12, 1922 at her grandmother’s house in Conway, NH. She graduated from Kennett High School in North Conway, NH and attended Nursing School in Portland, ME.

In June of 1942, she went on a blind date with Earle S. Grames Sr. and they were married in September of the same year. They had 54 years of marriage until his death in 1996.

Eleanor was a homemaker for many years, and also was an in-home sales lady selling Avon door to door for over 20 years. She enjoyed baking, knitting, crocheting, reading and in younger years loved to go camping with her family. In later years, she enjoyed winters in Florida. She was an active member of Christ Church in Kennebunk where she taught Sunday School and Women’s Fellowship. She was a member of York County Extension.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter Nancy Toussaint, a brother Charles Hale and sisters Helen LaFrance, Alice Hill, Irma Hale and Caroline Hale.

Survivors include her son Earle S. Grames, Jr. and his wife Linda of Alfred; granddaughter Laura Cluff of Kennebunk, grandson E. Stephen Grames, III of Alfred, 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Christ Church, 6 Dane Street, Kennebunk. Interment will be at Hope Cemetery in the Spring.
