Obituary for Miltiades C. Vargelis

Miltiades C. Vargelis
Ogunquit ,Maine
Miltiades C. Vargelis
June 26,1944- November 28, 2018

When asked “what do you want in your obituary?” He said “Why waste the money. Just tell one person in Ogunquit, and everyone will know!” Milt wasn’t “big” on talking about death and dying. A private man when it came to his personal life, he asked that no one know about his valiant pursuit to stay alive. True to his unique character, Milt procrastinated for as long as he possibly could before leaving us.
Sometime in the morning on November 28th, 2018, Milt quietly passed away with his devoted friend Angel at his side. We were in my home in Wells, where we celebrated every Holiday together and where Alana and Christian Kelley grew up. The two children (daughter and son) he proudly raised as his own. This is where we all learned the true meaning of family.
Milt loved to travel when he could be pulled away from his true passion, “work”. A long time resident of Ogunquit, Milt made his mark as the owner of Charlie’s Restaurant and The Neptune Inn at Ogunquit Beach.
Those who truly knew him will remember his generosity, dedication to his patrons, faithful employees and friends, and his trust in his son in law Marko, not only to take his first “time off” ever from work, but to guide his granddaughter who will arrive in January, on earth, as he guides us all from above. Oh, and…The Best French Fries anywhere!
He is predeceased by his mother and father Dionesia and Constantine Vargelis and survived by his brother Jim, sister Niki and their children.
Graveside service at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford will be made for the spring of 2019 with a celebration of his life to follow. Donations in his name could be made to your Greenpeace 702 H Street NW, Suite 300 Washington, DC 20001, Animal Welfare Society P.O. Box 43 West Kennebunk, Maine 04094 or a charity of your choice. Go Pats!
