Obituary for J. Henry "Hank" Lalumiere

J. Henry “Hank” Lalumiere, 82 yrs, died peacefully Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, ME.

Mr. Lalumiere was born in Portland, ME, June 11, 1935, a son of Joseph H. and Mabel Irene Colter Lalumiere. He attended Portland Schools and graduated from Deering High School. He spent many years in law enforcement including tours of duty with the Portland and Falmouth Police Departments, leaving with the position of Sargent. He then became the President and owner of Elm Ice and Oil in Portland and Falmouth for over thirty years. For several years he coached Little League Baseball and also was an avid race fan at Beech Ridge Speedway and served as Flagman for several years.

He was a member of Casco Lodge #36 of Portland, a member of all Scottish Rite Bodies, the Maine Consistory Valley of Portland 32 degree, a member of Kora Shrine of Lewiston, ME, joining the Cycle Corps in 1978, and served as its Illustrious Potentate in 1996, a member of several Shrine Clubs including Portland and Lake Region, and a former member of Kora Temple Trustees.

Hank was active with the PTA for several years in Portland. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and especially camping with his family and friends.

Hank was a chaperone at the Grand Assembly of Maine International Order of Rainbow Girls, a Rainbow Dad, past advisor of Youth Fellowship at the North Deering Congregational Church, supported Falmouth Little League, coach and umpire of the Falmouth baseball leagues, and worked at the Boston and Springfield Shriners Burn Outreach Clinics.

He was predeceased by his wife of over fifty years, Nancy Slocum Lalumiere, in 2016.

He is survived by a son, Glen Lalumiere and his wife Barbara of Windham; two daughters, Mrs. Brenda and her husband Mark Barriault of Portland and Patricia Lalumiere of Virginia; one sister, Marilyn Lalumiere of Falmouth, ME; and five grandchildren, Megan and Brian Lalumiere, Jennifer Stone, Jason Barriault and Kayla Humphreys.

Friends may call at the Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland on Friday, April 27, 2018 from 4 - 7 pm. A Masonic service will be held at 6:30PM by Casco Masonic Lodge #36. Funeral services will be held at the Woodfords Congregational Church, 202 Woodford Street, Portland, ME 04103 on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at 10 AM with the Rev. Carolyn Lambert officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Falmouth, ME.
