Obituary for Arthur Edward Gott Jr.

Arthur Edward Gott, Jr., 78 yrs, a resident of Alfred, Maine formerly of Kennebunkport, ME died peacefully Friday, February 2, 2018 at Gosnell Memorial House in Scarborough surrounded by his family after a long illness.

Arthur was born Sept 16, 1939 a son of Arthur E and Mary M (Curran) Gott and graduated from Kennebunk High School the class of 1957. He served with the United States Air Force.

Arthur wore many hats in his work and in doing so met many wonderful people. He was a lifelong fisherman, lobstering out of Government Wharf, Kennebunkport and for a time ran a fish market at the Kennebunk family restaurant, "Jake's Place". He also was passionate about horses and was involved with racing and training them at Scarborough Downs for many years.

An avid fisherman, trapper, and golfer, and sometimes "troublemaker", more than anything else he loved his family and friends and was dedicated to many in the community. Arthur was truly a master storyteller who mixed wit and wisdom to spin a tale like no other. His many adventures growing up in Kennebunkport have become part of local legend. He could often be found fishing at local rivers and creeks or drinking his coffee at the Colony Beach while watching the tides. He was salty like the ocean, feisty like the sea, and calm as a river. He was many, many things to many people and his best gifts were his humor and love.

He is survived by one son, Jake Gott and his wife, Sara, of Kennebunkport; daughter, Carrie Gott and her husband, Jim Kelley, of Park City, Utah; a brother, James Gott and his wife, Harriet of Kennebunkport; a sister, Mary Tsomides of Saco; two nephews, Peter Gott and Erin Gott, and a niece Shannon Gordon of Kennebunkport; and three spirited grandchildren; Zoe, Rowan and Sadie. He is also survived by his companion of many years Sally Perkins of Alfred, Maine.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held 11 AM Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the Atlantic Hall Main Street Cape Porpoise, ME.

Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Animal Welfare Society, P.O Box 43, West Kennebunk, Maine 04094 or to the American Legion Post # 159, PO Box 251, Kennebunkport, ME 04046 in Arthur's memory.
