Obituary for Mark "Bear" Emmons

Mark Steven “Bear” Emmons, 63, of Summer St. died suddenly at his winter home in Kennebunk.

Bear was born in Biddeford July 17, 1954, the son of David W. Sr. and Joan McCausland Emmons, and graduated from Kennebunk High School, class of 1971. He briefly attended Southern Maine Community College for automotive repair.

Throughout his life, he had several different jobs, including Hussey Manufacturing in North Berwick, working as a lobsterman, and cutting firewood. He was a member of South Congregational Church in Kennebunkport in his youth. More recently, he was a fixture in town as he walked from his campsite on Summer Street to get his coffee and do his shopping downtown.

Bear is predeceased by his parents.

Survivors include three brothers, David Emmons of Denver, CO, Gary Emmons of Bar Harbor, and Jeremy Emmons of Portland; a sister Gail Emmons of Nebraska, and several nieces and nephews.
Bear’s family expresses their sincere gratitude and thanks to all the citizens of the Kennebunk/Kennebunkport area who were so kind to him over the years, from a simple hello, a wave, or buying him a cup of coffee.

A gathering of Bear’s family and community will be held from 10 AM to 12 noon on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, with a brief Prayer Service at Noon, from the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St. Kennebunk. Spring interment will be in Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk.
