Frances L. Laing, 88 years, a resident of Wells, formerly of Berwick and Presque Isle, ME died Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Varney Crossing Nursing Home in North Berwick, with her family at her side. She was the widow of Lester L. Laing who died in 2002.
Frances was born in Presque Isle on January 21, 1928, a daughter of Frank J. and Anne (Curtis) Shean. She attended Presque Isle Schools and graduated from Presque Isle High School. She worked at Converse Rubber Company in Presque Isle prior to coming to Berwick in 1974.
She and her late husband Lester owned and operated the Laing Funeral Chapel in Berwick for over thirty years, where she served as a funeral attendant and bookkeeper at the firm. In 2002, the firm was sold to the Bibber Family where she remained as an assistant director prior to moving to Wells, ME.
Frances is survived by her daughter April A. Bennett and her husband Reginald of Wells; two grandchildren, Graham Bennett of Rhode Island and Kaitlyn Bennett of Wells.
Friends may call at the Laing- Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester St. Berwick on Monday, June 6, 2016 from 12 noon to 2pm where a Funeral Service will be held at 2pm with the Rev. Jim Shook officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery Berwick, ME.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the York - Ogunquit United Methodist Church, PO Box 521, York, ME 03909 in Mrs. Laing’s memory.
