Obituary for John Francis Sheehy Jr.

John Francis Sheehy Jr.
John Francis Sheehy, age 82, of Wells passed away on August 27th, 2018 at his home in Wells, Maine surrounded by family. John was born in Boston, Massachusetts on May 1st, 1936 and raised in Randolph, Massachusetts before moving to Wells, Maine in 1965. John had a vibrant childhood where he discovered his love for sports and outdoor activities including fishing, hunting and eventually riding his motorcycle. From a young age, John enjoyed playing the piano and expressed his love of music throughout his life, especially playing Irish tunes. He served as an altar boy at his Catholic church during his childhood years. John graduated from Thayer Academy in 1955 where he was an outstanding football player. John then attended Norwich University. He found his love for Maine while spending his childhood summers with his family at their beach house in Wells. As luck would have it, in 1960 while working as a lifeguard on Wells Beach, he met his soon to be wife, Marianne. After they wed and moved to Wells, John made his career in road construction building roads throughout New England as well as carpentry and also deep sea fishing on the “Cap’t Jim” out of Kennebunkport. In 1978, John purchased a tract of land in Wells and began his life’s work of building and making what is affectionately known as the Sheehy Compound. Other than his family, the Compound became his pride and joy and his family enjoyed all seasons of the year relaxing, playing, and living life to its fullest. You can still find his grandchildren running around the Compound, riding ATV’s and dirt bikes on the paths or making secret forts in the woods. Throughout his life, John cherished family time and you could always find him cooking dinner, reading a book or completing a crossword puzzle with a Coors in hand. John will be remembered as an Irish soul who was loyal and hardworking with a kind and generous heart.
John is predeceased by his father, John F. Sheehy. Sr., his mother, Janet L. Ashmore Sheehy; his brother Jeremiah J. Sheehy; and his son, Sean P. Sheehy.
John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marianne Sheehy; his brother Richard Sheehy of Plymouth, MA; his three daughters, Janet Hennessey and Eileen M. Sheehy both of Wells; Kerry S. Randolph of Virginia Beach; and his daughter in-law, Caryn Perkins Sheehy, of Tampa, FL. He was a loving grandfather to his eight grandchildren Meaghan, Emily, Shain, Brianna, Haley, Sean, Gavan, and Liam through which his legacy will live on.
Visiting hours will be at Bibbers Funeral Home in Wells on Thursday, August 30th from 4pm-7pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11AM on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Mary’s Church, Eldridge Road, Wells, ME.
