P. Michael “Mike” Fairweather, 62 of Wells, Maine passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mike died of complications from his 15 year battle with Metastatic Prostate Cancer, Leukemia and metastatic gastric cancer of the stomach lining.
Born in Pittsfield MA, Mike was the son of Paul and Gertrude Fairweather. He graduated from Taconic High, Cape Cod Community College and North Adams State College with degrees in Hotel Management and Business Marketing.

Mike worked in the telecommunication field as President of Unex and President and CEO of GN Netcom. In this time Mike oversaw the integration of four companies specializing in hands-free communication for mobile phones. Under Mike’s leadership, GN Netcom was the first company to introduce a Bluetooth device for the mobile phone market.
Additionally he served on the Board of Directors for GN Resound of Copenhagen, Denmark.

At age 50, Mike retired to spend time with his family and manage his ongoing battle with cancer. He volunteered at CRU (an organization focused on exposing college students to the Bible, allowing students an opportunity to know Jesus personally) and assisted in Strategic planning and fund development. Mike served on the Advisory Board for the national organization.

Additionally, he organized Beach Bike Rides for Charity in Wells, spoke at Relay for Life rallies and helped lead a Bible Study . He also chaired a Strategic Planning Committee at Sanibel Community Church as they pursued the development of a Christian Retreat and Training Center.

An avid bicyclist, Mike rode the Pan-Mass Challenge, as a cancer survivor, for 5 years to raise funds for Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Sarah (Sally) Joyce and two children, James and his wife Ashley (Coll) Fairweather, and Kaitlin (Fairweather) Fryling and her husband, Paul. Mike was blessed with two grandchildren, Madison and John Fairweather.

Mike leaves behind 5 siblings, Elizabeth Mordaszewski, Jim Fairweather, Amy Fairweather, Theresa Albert and John Fairweather and 12 greatly loved nieces and nephews.

Mike brought life and light to all those who knew him. He will be remembered for his perseverance and courage, his big, giving heart and his love of family, friends and co-workers. He lived a life of faith, kept his sense of humor, and had a “never, never, never give up” attitude.

The family would like to thank the incredible team of doctors and staff at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, CRU staff, St. Mary’s Bible Study Group and the Sanibel Community Church for their support and compassion throughout Mike’s life journey.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at St Mary’s Church, 236 Eldridge Road, Wells, ME.
