Obituary for Richard Michael Burgess
Richard Michael Burgess, 78, of Ogunquit and former longtime resident of Mendon, MA, died suddenly at his home Sunday, February 25, 2018.
Richard was born April 30, 1939 in Boston, MA, the son of James and Mary (Munzing) Burgess, and is a graduate of Newbury College in Boston.
A veteran of the U S Marine Corps, he served stateside and had a year tour of duty in Okinawa, Japan.
He married Patricia Zopatti in 1963, and together they made their home in Mendon, MA, where he was employed with Lewis/Boyle in Waltham, retiring as a rental-equipment use manager after 30 years with the company.
Moving to Ogunquit, where they had summered for many years, he worked for the Town of Ogunquit as a Visitor Services co-Supervisor for the last 14years.
Enjoying his quiet time, Richard loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and to read his many volumes of books.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 54 years, Patricia Burgess of Ogunquit, a son Eric Burgess and his wife Tara of Mendon, MA, and two grandchildren, Colin and Taylor Burgess, both of Mendon, MA, a brother Robert Burgess of Quincy, MA and a sister Kathleen Burgess of Parsippany, NJ.
A private family service will be held.
